Today's Look

Church Flow

Today was one of those days that I wasn't sure what to wear because the weather was 58 degrees on May 31, 2015.  What is going on with Mother Nature???  Well, after searching through my closet; I managed to put together an ensemble that I was pleased with.  On days like this, having a light jacket or blazer always makes it better.  Here's my look, drop a comment and let me know what you think.  Outfit details are listed below.

Dress: Venus Online Boutique
Necklace: Image Jewelry (IG page- @the_imagejewelry)
Yellow shoes: DSW
Purse: IG purse maker, sorry can't remember her page name.
Sunglasses: Gucci shades

For the purpose of church, I turned my clutch around
so the picture didn't show.  I didn't want to offend anyone.

My husband; my personal photographer tends to catch
me off guard, but most times those are my favorite pics.

Tips to Growing Healthy Hair

Long hair don’t care?  Not if you don’t eat enough protein!

Outside of everything you buy and put in your hair, you’re losing out if you don’t watch what you put into your body.  The key to great hair isn’t just about what you wash or condition it with but it starts with what you do and don’t eat.

The main ingredient to great hair is protein.  Let me start by saying that hair is made of protein and therefore, you’ll need it the same way your body is made of water and needs water.  When you don’t eat enough protein, the body will start to reserve and ration out the protein it has which causes slow to no hair growth.  Without hair growth, the hairs on your head become so dry there’s nothing you can do to restore moisture and then, you guessed it, your hair breaks off and falls out.  Now it’s a known fact that we shed 50-100 hairs per day but if you know you haven’t eaten enough protein over the past couple of months, you start to see way more hair shedding than usual.

Now that you know what could cause hair loss, you want to know what to do to avoid it or fix it right?
Did you also know that I would tell you how?  Of course you did!

For starters, you’re going to need about 46 to 56 grams of protein each day and there’s no way for me to tell you how much that is if I don’t know what type of protein you’re eating so I have a little chart to help us out with my top 5 Protein Quick-Picks:

So, before you run to the dermatologist or pick up the next bottle of mega-growth hair serum, try picking up some of these items in my list to adjust your protein intake.  You’ll see a big difference in hair growth and texture that you’ll love to flaunt no matter the length.  Stay tuned for more tips and trick for natural hair right here at www.TonitaSmith.com.

Maxi Season!!!

I just love pairing maxi skirts and spring dresses with warm weather. It not only looks good but you can find all kinds of textures, shapes, and patterns that you can dress up, dress down, and even use to throw on something colorful. Reach for this especially when you’re feeling like the “only girl in the world” as spring dresses have a tendency to bring out our ultra feminine side with ruffles, cascades, t-straps, off-shoulder necklines, eyelets, and even pencil silhouettes.

Here are a few more reasons why you may want to consider falling in love with them too:

·         Maxi skirts work with all shapes and body types because they hug where you want them to and come away from the areas you want to hide. The only thing left to do is to find one with a length you love which can stop at your ankle or even the floor for maxi-skirts or higher if wearing a Spring dress.

·         Maybe you’re the type of girl to base your whole ensemble on your shoe. Well pairing maxi-skirts and dresses with your shoes is easy. You can show off a chunky sandal, a stiletto sandal, kitten heels, or even a pair of flops and still exude that you’re all woman.

·         Bring on the color! Bright oranges, yellows, blues, greens, pinks, red, and striking patterns are usually something most stay away from but I say run right into wearing color. If you’re timid about it, then put on a colorful skirt and select a shirt, cardigan, or jacket in neutral solid colors to slowly ease yourself into wearing color. After a while, you’ll feel comfortable enough to try on a colorful spring dress or even a bright top.

·         Maxi-skirts double as dresses (especially if you’re 5 feet tall and under)! You can pull them up above your chest and tie with a skinny belt over the waist for a strapless a-line look OR pull the skirt 1” above your navel and wear a 2” belt that covers the waist.

·         They’re breathable! Most skirts and dresses are made of a breathable knit that lets you feel the breeze while you inhale and exhale confidence all the way to your destination.

There are all kinds of ways to put everything together with a maxi-skirt or spring dress and you know I don’t mind showing you how I do it! Take a look at these pretties that certainly made me feel good and were a pleasure to wear.

I’ve listed where I purchased each part of my ensemble so you can take a look and buy what grabs you instead of letting what you grabbed wear you.

How do you wear your skirts and dresses? Drop a photo in the comments so we all can see at www.TonitaSmith.com.

Mother's Day Fashion

Mother’s Day is one of my favorite holidays.  It’s the one time of year that every woman even if they haven’t actually given birth to a child, are made to feel special and celebrated.  Women are nurturers by nature; so even if they don't have children of their own, they have probably at some point in their life taken care of someone else.
I am a mother of three biological sons; however I consider myself a mother and mentor to so many others.  It’s always great to be celebrated and to celebrate other women; this is why I love Mother’s Day.
Like so many other special occasions or holidays fashion doesn’t take a break so of course I had to find just the right outfit to wear on this day.  I knew I would start my day off by going to church giving thanks to God and afterwards visit my mother and my mother-n-law.  This year was no different and is exactly what I did, lol.  My husband took me and his mom to dinner and we later went to visit friends before turning in for the day.
It was a great weekend. This is what I came up with for my Mother’s Day fashion. Please feel free to comment and share your thoughts.  Thank you.

My Birthday Fashion

My birthday is May 9th, and this year like so many others; it fell on Mother’s Day weekend.  Previous years it’s even fallen on Mother’s Day, so this is always special for me, or not, lol.  Thankfully, my husband doesn’t cheat me and always goes out of his way to make both days extra special for me.

Let’s talk birthday fashion.  I must admit I don’t casually think about fashion when it comes to my Special Day, because it’s more like a Holiday to me.  I searched Fashion Boutiques, Instagram pages, Facebook pages, and online stores looking for something that would suit my fashion taste.  I didn’t have a specific look in mind, I just knew when I saw it, I would know.  Thankfully my cousin’s boutique received a new shipment of denim high-low skirts.  When I first saw them my thought was wow that’s it, “If I can find the perfect top, this would work great.”  I wasn’t quite sure what I would be doing for my birthday, but somehow I knew it would end with a nice dinner with friends and family, plus a chance to wear my well thought out birthday outfit, lol.

Yall, I searched high and low looking for a crop top.  Not just any crop top, not a crop top that reveals too much, but a crop top that would fall just right.  I absolutely love denim and this particular skirt came with enough material to tie a large bow right in the front.  I didn’t want to wear a tucked top, and I didn’t want anything that would prevent this bow from being seen; it was the centerpiece.  I was lucky enough to find the perfect crop top at a vendor event that my boutique was participating in.  There it was displayed so nicely on the vendor’s table two booths down from us; I knew when I saw it that it would pair perfectly.  I felt like a kid in a candy store when I happily paid for my purchase.  Whewwww, that’s it; I knew I already had the perfect accessories at home considering our boutique specializes in accessories plus I’m always supporting other boutiques by making purchases from them.  This was the easy part; I knew I would be able to pull the rest together without a problem.

Here’s what I came up with for my birthday outfit; details of boutique names and contact info is listed under the pictures.  Please follow and support and feel free to comment and share your thoughts and ideas.
