Tips to Create Your Personal Masterpiece

Art in the form of Fashion
Tips to help you create your masterpiece

Have you ever thought about how fashion is influenced by art?   A designer has to consider the lines, shapes, and colors that go into making a masterpiece of an outfit the same as a painter.   Some of us may not have the skill and creativity of a designer; however we may still have an eye for great art and fashion.

When putting together an outfit, we should view our bodies as fresh clean canvas.  We would start our picture with nothing at all.   You will eventually add to the canvas until we have achieved a complete masterpiece.

Before we start painting our picture, we must first mentally sketch an idea of what we want our painting to portray.  Once we have sketched out our outfit, now we can start to see what else we can add to the canvas in order to make ourselves vivid pieces of art work.  We can begin to tell our story through our fashion.

Color Schemes are very important when putting together an outfit.  There are many color schemes that can be used.  Using a color wheel can help you achieve a better understanding of what color schemes are complementary to one another.  The complementary color scheme is made of two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel.  This scheme looks best when you put a warm color against a cool color. Our color schemes may also depend on which season we are in at the time.  In the winter you may want to go wear different colors than in the summer. White, black and gray are considered to be neutral, and can be worn all year around.

Color also has meaning and can trigger certain emotions and moods. Cool colors give an impression of calm, and create a soothing impression.  Warm colors are vivid and energetic.  We tend to dress according to our mood.  If we are feeling happy and friendly, we tend to dress with more vibrant colors.

We also tend to accessorize ourselves when we are feeling good.  A nicely accessorized individual is usually more energetic.  They seem happier than others for some reason.  That individual has decorated themselves according to how they want the world to view them, a masterpiece for all to see.  Just like when gazing at a painting you can feel energy from a well put together outfit.  Have you ever been out in public and happened to see someone and you knew exact what type of mood they were in by what they were wearing?  You can also tell when a person’s mood is slightly down and dark because it will look as if they got dressed in the dark, lol.

If we were paintings inside of a museum, what would people say when they gazed at us?  Would they be able to imagine the story we were trying to tell when we put on our clothes that day?  Would they say that we were masterpiece?  These are thing to think about when coordinating your outfits. Think as an artist. We are our own personal canvas.

Here are some tips to create your own masterpiece:

  1. Visually think about what story you want to share without ever saying a word; simply by appearance only.
  2. Decide what colors complement your skin tone best; get a color wheel if needed (local fabric store).
  3. Decide if you want to accessorize or not; what will be the focal piece?
  4. Consider the season; do you want to layer or not? ( consider the temperature)
  5. Consider your mood and how it plays a factor in the final results.
  6. Try on a few options and change as needed until you’re happy with your look.
  7. Decide how your hairstyle will tie everything together to complete you final masterpiece.
  8. Select shoes that will complement or complete your look.
  9. Check out your overall look in a full length mirror.
  10. Admire your finished masterpiece and walk in confidence!

New Year, New Look!! Fashion Tips for 2017

Fashion Vision Boards for 2017

Hey Fashionistas

Do you want to change your look in 2017, but don’t know how? Do you ever visualize having a more defined sense of style, but don’t know how to achieve it?

Collages and Vision boards are great tools to manifest your desired look. Here’s how you can manifest the look you desire.

Every year I make a conscious decision to remix my fashion, you know do a little something different with my wardrobe. I once heard a saying that “A New Look Can Change Your Life”, and I truly believe this. I believe that a person’s fashion sense speaks volumes about their mood and their spirit. The way a person dresses says a lot about who they are and where they are going. Fashion can tell a story or paint a picture. You may want to tell the story of a successful business woman, yet your style says stay at home mom. Nothing against a stay at home mom.

If this year you want your fashion to speak for you, here’s a few tips:

1. Visualize the look you want to achieve.

2. Purchase some new Fashion Magazines featuring your desired look or use the internet to search around for some fabulous new looks. If you choose to use internet searches, type your desired look in search engine and it should bring up images of possible looks for you. You may then want to copy and print some of those images. You can also use apps like Pinterest or Polyvore.

3. You may want several different looks for different occasions, so from the magazines and printouts you would cut out all desired looks.

4. Glue or paste your looks to a poster board of your liking. The posting board can be big or small, colored or not colored.

5. Hang it up somewhere to remind you to stay motivated about your look. You may want to put it in inside of your closet, therefore it will be visible when you reach for articles of clothing.

5. The next time you’re out shopping, don’t be afraid to try on some on the styles that you have put together.

6. If you don’t like shopping, you can also find a personal shopper, fashion stylist, or order from a company that will send you entire outfits in a box already put together for you.

Normally at the beginning of the year I like to create a Fashion collage/vision board to keep me on track and motivated for my new year. I like to feel as if I’m recreating myself or inventing a new me. Right now, I am rocking my two-toned natural curly hair, so I look for colorful clothing that will compliment my hair.  I type “Afros and Winter Fashion” in the search engine then I will choose the look that suits me. I also cut out different styles from several magazines.

Subtle changes can be made to enhance your look. It doesn’t have to be a big change, a small change can make a big difference whether it’s changing a hairstyle, make-up, or adding new jewelry. You can create a vision board for just about anything. You want to try something new, create a vision board and allow your creations to manifest! For accessory ideas visit my online boutique “Fashion Remix Boutique.”  We specialize in accessories for any occasion.

Father's Day Weekend!!!

Sequin Maxi Skirt

Contrary to what most believe, sequin don’t always mean dressy attire.  You already know, I absolutely love a great maxi dress or maxi skirt, so imagine how excited I was when I scored this gorgeous sequin maxi skirt. I already had the perfect event in mind to wear it to I just needed my creative style juices to kick in.  It was a hot summer day in St. Louis, and I was thinking how could I pull off this look and still be cool.  I found this charcoal gray tank top at Target and once I put it together I knew exactly how I would accessorize.  I wore this outfit to a Father's Day dinner that I planned for my husband, my step-dad, and my brother.  Outfit details are listed below, let me know what you think, I would love to hear your feedback.  Don’t forget if you have a specific look in mind and need a standout piece or a “pop of color” or just the right clutch, head over to my boutique and let us help complete your look. @www.fashionremix2.com.  Thank you.

Father’s Day

Today was a Special Day because it was all about celebrating the men on Father’s Day.  My husband and I went to church and brunch.  I decided to wear a dressy maxi dress that could easily be worn to both places.  When choosing a maxi dress for church you always want to consider skin exposure and cleavage, remember less is best. You want to be mindful to select carefully, always dress appropriate without being a negative distraction at church.  Pairing your maxi with a cute scarf, a blazer, chunky necklace, or a denim vest will usually keep things in check. Here’s my look for both engagements.  I chose to wear a blazer with my dress for church.  Let me know what you think, leave a comment below.  Outfit details are listed below.
